When a repair remains unresolved
Living with structural defects can affect the way you use your home. If you have reported a repair problem to your council or housing association and it remains unresolved, an assessment can help you understand the options available.
We look at the circumstances of each enquiry. A problem being on this list does not automatically mean you have a valid claim.
Problems you might recognise
- An unsafe or sagging ceiling
- Damaged floors or stairs linked to a repair defect
- Deteriorating external brickwork or roof defects
- Recurring cracks with an underlying repair problem
What will help explain your situation?
Describe what has changed and which parts of your home are affected. Take photographs from a safe position and keep copies of reports or inspection notes.
Start with the information you have. Keep copies of repair requests, messages and appointment details, including any repair reference numbers.
Put safety first.Do not enter or remain in an area that appears unsafe just to gather evidence. Use the landlord’s emergency service if there is an immediate danger.
What might a claim involve?
Depending on the evidence and the landlord’s responsibilities, a claim may seek appropriate repair works and compensation. We cannot promise a particular outcome or amount.
You will need to understand the proposed costs and funding before deciding whether to instruct a solicitor. Eligible cases may be offered No Win, No Fee terms.
Who can use this service?
