When a repair remains unresolved
Living with damp & mould can affect the way you use your home. If you have reported a repair problem to your council or housing association and it remains unresolved, an assessment can help you understand the options available.
We look at the circumstances of each enquiry. A problem being on this list does not automatically mean you have a valid claim.
Problems you might recognise
- Mould returning after cleaning or treatment
- Damp patches, peeling wallpaper or crumbling plaster
- Water entering through the roof, walls or windows
- Defective ventilation or unresolved leaks
What will help explain your situation?
Explain where the damp appears, when it started and whether previous work made a difference. Photographs taken over time can help show that the problem is recurring.
Start with the information you have. Keep copies of repair requests, messages and appointment details, including any repair reference numbers.
Put safety first. If damp or mould is affecting someone’s health, tell your landlord about this when you report it. Seek appropriate medical help for any health concerns.
What might a claim involve?
Depending on the evidence and the landlord’s responsibilities, a claim may seek appropriate repair works and compensation. We cannot promise a particular outcome or amount.
You will need to understand the proposed costs and funding before deciding whether to instruct a solicitor. Eligible cases may be offered No Win, No Fee terms.
