Pests & infestations claims

Recurring pests can make it difficult to feel comfortable at home. Where a building defect contributes to the problem, repairs may be part of the solution.

When a repair remains unresolved

Living with pests & infestations can affect the way you use your home. If you have reported a repair problem to your council or housing association and it remains unresolved, an assessment can help you understand the options available.

We look at the circumstances of each enquiry. A problem being on this list does not automatically mean you have a valid claim.

Problems you might recognise

  • Pests entering through holes in walls or floors
  • Damaged drains contributing to an infestation
  • Recurring pest problems linked to unresolved building defects
  • Repair work that has failed to close known entry points

What will help explain your situation?

Keep pest-control reports and details of how the problem may be linked to a defect. Responsibility depends on the circumstances and should be assessed individually.

Start with the information you have. Keep copies of repair requests, messages and appointment details, including any repair reference numbers.

Put safety first. An infestation alone does not automatically mean there is a disrepair claim. The cause, responsibility and evidence all matter.

What might a claim involve?

Depending on the evidence and the landlord’s responsibilities, a claim may seek appropriate repair works and compensation. We cannot promise a particular outcome or amount.

You will need to understand the proposed costs and funding before deciding whether to instruct a solicitor. Eligible cases may be offered No Win, No Fee terms.
